Writer in Motion Week 1 First Draft
Hey you beautiful guys and dolls! Thank you for stopping by to read my messy notes and first revision process. I'm so happy you are here!
So, this post is going to be all about how my motion got moving. I'm writing this over several hours because my usual way of writing is to be in such a hurry, I get rushed and too impatient to get it posted as soon as possible....
My first impression of the prompt threw me for a loop. I was so excited to see the prompt. I started telling my CP and writing group how excited I was to jump into writing during WIM. I wanted something new, something fresh, and something to take my mind off a project I was contemplating shelving.
So when the prompt was given, I was actually trembling with anticipation! I could barely wait for the reveal!
But then my heart fell. I stared at the picture trying to come up with something, but there wasn't anything. My biggest problem was me. I thrive on being different. And I couldn't write the same idea as everyone else...(yes, that's how my brain works...obviously everyone's ideas would not really mirror mine, and vice versa, but that's how my brain was operating at the moment...)
So, I decided I wanted to write the story before the picture photo was taken. What was the story that led up to my MC raising her "flare" to sky? I immediately thought of the clouds, and maybe she was going to be a cloud goddess.
But...no. I didn't was Greek mythology. Native American myths? Yes! Yes, since my heritage is Cherokee and Shawnee, this is something I love to do. As I researched, I found the perfect story, but it didn't go with the prompt...or did it?
I kept searching. I started a vision board. And my favorite picture I found found for the vision board? It's pasted into my blog article. It's not the actual picture, you'll find that one on my Writer In Motion Pinterest board here:

Since I don't know who to credit that fabulous picture to, I'll use this fabulous photo from a free site. Pexels.com
A carnival swing? What was she thinking?
Are you thinking this? If you are, I absolutely promise you it will make perfect sense when you read my revision. Because this is not your typical carnival swing, and this is the event that pushed my MC's story into motion.
So, my self edited 2nd draft will be post on Friday. Hope you come back to read it! Until then, write with ink in the book, my dear writer friends!
